In 2022 Tapton school declared a climate emergency.

We follow the 3 Cs principle in tackling this, focusing on Curriculum, Community and Campus

Curriculum

•We see sustainability as everyone’s responsibility and recognise that we have a duty to educate students on the role they have to play in this
•We strive to ensure all members of our community understand the contextual background that has led to this climate emergency
•We aim to place sustainability within the curriculum for each subject taught at KS3. This already features in our Geography, Science and English curriculum and our assemblies.
•We have placed the issues surrounding sustainability within our Personal Development curriculum at each key stage.
•We will continue to promote and grow our sustainability extra curricular offer through the Green Initiative team.

Campus

•We will enhance the biodiversity of our site by liaising with Mitie, our managed provider
•We are committed to reducing waste by increasing overall recycling on site and limiting consumption
•We continue to explore ways to reduce our energy usage

Community

•We are focused on increasing the number of students and staff cycling, car sharing and walking to school to create more sustainable transport
•We aim to decrease the use of single use plastics by liaising with local shops and businesses and encourage the use of reusable water bottles
•We continue to take an active role in eliminating litter in the community through litter picks and the promotion of an anti-litter ethos
