Learning Outside the Classroom

At Tapton we promote academic enrichment through a range of clubs and activities, inspiring our students to foster a lifelong love of learning and the independence and flexibility to embark upon a bright future

A wide range of hobbies and interests are catered for, from sport and music practice, to Debating and STEM clubs.

Students are also encouraged to get involved in leadership activities across all Key Stages.  Year and Student Councils, the Prefect System and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme are just some of the activities on offer that enable students to acquire, develop and demonstrate their leadership skills.

Our school club timetables are listed below.

Homework

Homework set at Tapton will be in line with our touchstone of ‘meaningful, manageable, and predictable’ for all students in all year groups.

Meaningful

Homework tasks are embedded into the curriculum and relevant to the learning in the classroom.  All homework set supports students and facilitates students’ in-class performance or revision for assessments.

Manageable

Homework tasks are designed to be short and regular to encourage good study habits in preparation for later study and working life.  To support the completion of homework there are Homework drop-ins available for each key stage once a week which are held in the Library.  The club is monitored by members of the Senior Leadership Team and Teaching Assistants.

Predictable

Each department shares information with parents and carers at the start of the school year about homework in their subject in the course handbooks.  Homework tasks do not have to be written and could take the form of reading, learning or revision and in mastery subjects (Maths and MFL) students will receive weekly homework to help with their proficiency in these areas.

The school community is actively involved in fundraising for a number of local, national and international causes, including the Tapton School Hardship Fund.  Money is raised throughout the school year through student led activities.
