Subject Leader Ms J M Bows
Teachers Mr M Field Ms J Dunn

A2 art students

The Key stage 5 curriculum aims to give all pupils an opportunity to build on the skills set established in KS4. Workshops (listed below) give pupils further experience of a diverse range of methods which give them freedom for expression in later projects. Pupils coming into Tapton for whom some of these techniques maybe new are given support through extra curricular provision to fill in gaps in experience.

Workshop activities in Y12

Basic Drawing skills, Screen Printing, Batik, Clay Construction, Weaving, Felt Making, Silk Painting, Painting, Sculpture, Digital Photography, Photoshop.

Our pupils really value and enjoy having access to such a wide range of materials and methods and having the creative freedom of this course.

As in Key stage 4 the projects allow for a completely individual interpretation and are managed to a strict time frame to help pupils prepare for the exam at the end of the course.

Pupils need to submit a project and the exam at the end of the course at both AS and A level. The exam is a practical piece which must be completed in school within a timed period. The exam at AS level is 5 hrs and at A level 15 hrs. Preparation time is allowed for these tasks.

We run two trips in year 12 to gather inspiration and reference material. In the winter term we visit London to see the Tate Britain and the Tate Modern. In the Summer term we go to Paris where we see all the main galleries, the Eiffel Tower and spend time working in Monet's inspirational garden in Giverny in an activity packed 5 days.
