Welcome to the Department of Design and Technology
In the Design and Technology department at Tapton we believe the courses which we have created are exciting, varied and hugely inspiring. The range of our specialist GCSE teaching is the most extensive and, in many cases, the most successful in the city of Sheffield. Our A level results have been described as 'Red Hot' for the past two years by a National system for measuring A level performance (ALPs).
We hope that you will enjoy seeing examples of our highly prized work and that you will come to share our enthusiasm for DT.

Good design isn't merely about the surface of an object. The way something looks is important, but only a part of a much larger picture. Design and technology is so important that without it we simply could not exist. Even if we do not wish to work in Design and Technology related industries, all of us need to understand how Design and Technology affects our world in order to make wise decisions about the purchase of products.
"I believe that Design and Technology is as essential to education as the ability to read and do arithmetic...Design and technology in schools gives children access to all this and more in a stimulating and real context ."
