You will Develop a critical understanding of economic theory and apply this knowledge to current issues in our economy today. Analyse and evaluate the market economy we live in and examine the Government's role within it. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of economic theory through its application to real world situations.

AS topics:

During your AS course you will be introduced to the theory of supply and demand; a fundamental part of economics that you will apply to many economic scenarios. You will also understand the role of the firm, government and consumer in a modern market economy.

A2 topics:

• Working as an economist
• Business economics and the distribution of income.
• Government policy, the national and international economy.

A2 economics builds on AS theory and allows you to apply your knowledge to solve economics problems. You will investigate market structures such as perfect competition, monopoly and oligopoly whilst looking further into the national and international economy, the concept of globalisation and beyond.
