Achievements in Geography

Well done to one of our students, Phoebe, who had an article published in the April 08 edition of Wide World, a publication for GCSE Geography students.  Her article was entitled ' Venezuela - Life on the Lake' and was based on her experiences during a World Challenge expedition to Venezuela in 2006.  She even got paid to write the article!

 

Tapton School - Winners of the 2005 Ordnance Survey Free Maps for Schools Competition and received £3000 worth of ICT equipment for the school.


 

Amy Mount was runner up in the 2005 Geographical Young Geographer of the Year Competition. She travelled to the Royal Geographical Society to receive her award from Tom Avery, the youngest Briton to travel to both the North and South Poles.

Miss Hollinger has been awarded a place on the Fuchs Foundation Antarctic Expedition. In November 2007 she will travel to the highest, driest and coldest continent on earth with a team of four Science and Geography teachers to conduct scientific research on Union Glacier.

Other achievements

In 2005, Heather Shepherd won a national essay writing competition.

Two A2 Geographers have offers to read Geography at Cambridge University

In recent years, two students from Tapton School have received awards for their performance in examinations.
