HOMEWORK

Refer to your child's planner for more details.

The biggest problem for some pupils is getting the task written down. Teachers or Teaching Assistants will help, otherwise it is vital to have some 'study buddies' who you ring in the evening. Time can also be a problem, as a general rule Y7s should be spending no more than 30 minutes per topic. If it proves difficult for you to understand the task set, possibly because your child has not noted down all the details, or your child has reached saturation point then write a note to the teacher concerned explaining the problem, and what you have managed to complete. Try to get your child in the habit of planning his/her time in the light of other interests. If slow writing is a problem you can scribe yourself but explain to the teacher why this is happening.

Rather than send the child off to do his work alone, it might help in the first instance to have your immediate support if they are stuck. Encourage them to talk about what they learnt/done each day. This will help them overlearn new topics and help them identify things they need to ask about. Teaching you the new maths they have learnt is an invaluable way of consolidating their understanding.

Try to help them develop a system for studying, this will be invaluable to them as they get older.

Most importantly do let us know if you have any concerns about homework, or school generally, email sen@taptonschool.co,uk or telphone 0114 2941184, There are also homework clubs some at lunchtime and within the SEN Department at 3.30 pm.. Early feedback can save a great deal of anxiety. We want your child to be happy and secure whilst achieving their potential. Your support and partnership is essential in meeting this aim.
