What is Psychology?

Psychologists try to understand human behaviour and experience. They recognise that human beings are complicated and that many factors may combine to affect what we do and feel. Psychology is a diverse subject, some psychologists focus on child development, some on social factors, some on mental health, and some on crime, to name just a few areas!!!

In order to study Psychology at Tapton, you will need

5 GCSE's at Grades A* - C. We recommend that you have a Grade B in Mathematics because of the statistical content of the course, but you may still be accepted if you have a C. You should also be willing to discuss ideas and consider theories critically. Because a large part of the assessment process is based on essays you should also be able to think logically and plan a coherent, structured argument.

Psychology provides an opportunity for students to study a new subject which is not available in school at Key Stage 4. It is a very popular subject, with around 100 students starting the AS course every year. Many of those go on to complete the full A level qualification.
