Year 7
Year 7, the start of key stage 3, builds on the knowledge and skills of the previous two key stages. Pupils follow the modules listed below and are examined in December and May. Lessons on thinking skills (CASE) are interleaved with the teaching modules, to enhance the pupils’ learning in this subject. Pupils are taught in 5 classes, organised as higher and lower bands, initially sorted by KS2 SAT scores.
Modules:
Autumn Term:
Spring Term:
- Space
- Solutions
- Rocks and Weathering
- Acids and alkalis
- Classification
- Exam
Summer Term:
- Reproduction
- Animal habitats
Timing of the modules is staggered, so that the teachers are not all trying to do the same experiment simultaneously! Our aim is to ensure that pupils see science as relevant in their everyday lives and discover the pleasure of learning.
