Body Art

Painting and Piercing: the Weird World of
Body Art

The Year 7's have been practicing body art. They have learnt different ways of decorating your body, by using tattoos, piercings and the controversial scarification process (not that the students were actually doing that!!).

The students have been getting into the action, painting each other's faces and bodies. Our very own Mrs Irwin has been decorating students' hands with interesting Japanese symbols, such as "safe" and "courage".

We asked some students about what they think on the subject of body art, many were too scared to get a tattoo, and others weren't allowed, but generally, most of them didn't want one at all!

The designs that the kids have been doing include clowns, pirates and one talented girl has even been painting dolphins!

Moustaches and Flowers

Year Sevens had an interesting afternoon doing body art. First of all they watched a slideshow of different designs they could do. Then they took up pen and paper and designed their own. The boys went for the blood-and-gore look, while the girls wanted flowers and hearts. Moustaches proved to be extremely popular with everyone. Some students even painted their whole face! Later on sheets were given out with Japanese words on. A student gave us their opinion on the activity:

“It's better than what I normally do on a Friday afternoon!”

Another student told us that it was like normal painting, just on ourselves!

The Year Sevens certainly seemed to have enjoyed doing body art. So if you see any green-faced twelve year olds with strange moustaches, don't be alarmed!

The Y7's Show Their True Colours

The Y7's are now a whole lot prettier since they got a new make over in the RE department. They have enjoyed drawing on each other, transforming themselves. Some are scary pirates whereas some went for the hippy rainbow and cherry style. “Everyone seems to have enjoyed making their friends look stupid” says Chris.

Lily excitedly chipped in saying “It's really fun! We want to do it all day long. Some people have a natural talent!”

Also treating themselves were another bunch of Y7's who were making bath bombs, foot cream and body cream in the science labs. Some girls preferred to go for coconut where as George went for black peppermint, “Making foot cream is manly!”

It seemed to be one of the messy activities as Y7's seemed to spill vanilla and coconut everywhere! These two ingredients usually are so pleasant to smell but proved overpowering in the busy science lab.
