FOOD

Eden Food Services have the contract to provide the food at Tapton school. In terms of the legislation that the government has introduced Eden Food were ahead of the game - introducing Healthly Options prior to September 2006.

There is a Healthy Breakfast Club at Tapton from 8.20 am, a break time facility and lunchtime provision.

All Eden Food Services menus are checked by a nutritionist. Click below to look at the current 3 week menu which will last about 6 months. Note that the day to day menu may vary due to availability of fresh produce.

In addition all children are taught Healthy Eating in Food Technology.

This year the main Healthy School work is about creating a Whole School Food Policy. We would value comments from parents on the draft policy displayed below. Any comments can be forwarded to enquiries@taptonschool.co.uk up to and including Monday February 19th 2007.

We have also consulted children about the food provision through a questionnaire in the Autumn Term 2006. Some of the main changes agreed with the School Council and the catering staff as a result of this were:-

  • a greater variety of pizza toppings (not just cheese or peperroni)
  • a greater fruit selection (not just bananas and apples)
  • fruit bags of freshly prepared chopped apple, vegetable bags of carrots, celery etc.
  • theme days - Chinese, Mexican and Spanish days will follow later this (Spring term) 2007
  • hot roast meat sandwiches on the menu
  • the provision of water in the dining room through a new water fountain

We will review the success of these options before the end of the school year.
