Y7 Team Building Afternoon

On the 30th of September the Tapton Y7s were lucky enough to take part in a team building afternoon in their forms on the astro turf. Evie Dente in Y7 reports on this event…

It was a lovely, sunny afternoon and I can say that everyone was very excited to leave normal lessons behind. We started off the afternoon by going to the assembly hall were we listened to Ms Rhodes and Mr Haslingden give two great speeches about the afternoon we were soon going to take part in. When they had finished Mr Haslingden sounded the claxon and the Y7s and their form tutors were off…

There were a numerous amount of teachers and 6th formers too who helped out with this amazing afternoon.

The purpose of this event was purely to help strengthen our form’s teamwork and to encourage us to work together successfully. Personally, I think it helped our forms bond and created friendly relations. While working with different people we all had a lot of fun.

After everyone arrived at the astro turf, each form individually undertook different team building exercises for a certain amount of time. Some of which included Blindfolded Sheep Herding, where four blindfolded people behind had to rely on the person in front of them to guide them around different cones. Tug of war, were each form was halved and had to pull on the big rope we were given, as hard as we could. In my opinion I think this was one of the best activities because it was very funny to watch everyone fall back on each other like dominos. Another exercise was the Magic Carpet Rides, which was when each group had to use only two small carpets to travel from one side of the pitch to the other. Some techniques were strange but unique and creative as well.

Students loved it “I really enjoyed it because there were lots of fun activities and we got to know more about the people in our forms.”

But form tutors did too. Mr Bradbury said “I thought it was great that everyone worked with different people, as they went onto different activities they worked even better together.”

One thing is for sure, we all know our form a bit better and have some fond memories to share.
