Braille Literacy

For students who have a profound vision impairment accessing learning through print can become a barrier to learning. Teaching of braille literacy is necessary when large print impedes student progress to ensure that the children and young people are fully able to access the curriculum.

To ensure successful progression in the tactile skills needed to be able to read through touch, it is necessary for intervention teaching planned and delivered by a qualified teacher of vision impairment.  Within the Service we are able to offer specialist teaching of these skills, and the production of bespoke learning resources in braille medium.
