The Film Studies department at Tapton has two full time members of staff, one of which is a subject specialist. Film Studies is a popular option, currently we have 30 students studying the AS and A2 course. We consistently achieve good results and our students often make outstanding progress. Last year we achieved 72% A*-B at A2 and 78% of our current A2 students are carrying A-B from their AS studies. We follow the WJEC Specification course which allows our Year 12 students to develop a sound understanding of film as an industry, institution and art form; theory is then put into practice via a variety of coursework options. This is then followed by a Year 13 programme which includes options in World Cinema, Spectatorship Study, Single Film Critical Study and further coursework options, which include screenwriting and filmmaking. Students are expected to take an active part in classroom discussion and to recognise the need for independent study.
