Physical Education

The PE Department deliver an active and energetic curriculum where pupils are encouraged to develop a positive approach to the learning of skills, knowledge and understanding to lead an active and healthy lifestyle throughout their lives. The curriculum is combined with an extensive extra curricular programme where pupils may extend their learning before school, lunchtimes and after school.

All pupils have two hours of PE a week throughout the school. Year 12 and 13 students have a one hour enrichment lesson where they can participate in various activities. Pupils will learn to develop their skills and techniques to develop their competence and creativity to perform at higher levels in a wide variety of activities. These will include games, gymnastics, athletics, dance, fitness and outdoor and adventurous activities. Pupils who have a further interest will be able to undertake examination including A Level and GCSE and leadership courses in key stage 4 and post 16 provision. Additionally at Key Stage 4 all pupils will be able to select an options pathway where they are able to select an individual pathway, meeting their individual interests and aptitudes. This allows further opportunities to learn new activities outside school using our diverse sporting facilities around the city.

All pupils are encouraged to be active and value the importance of exercise and participation. The teachers are fully committed to high quality teaching and learning to ensure pupils make progress in their learning at Tapton School.
