Vision Support Service/ Integrated Resource
About the Department
Tapton School is home to the Sheffield Vision Support Service a Local Authority education service for vision impaired children and young people from 0-25 who live in Sheffield.
The Service runs the integrated resource at Tapton School for children who have a severe or profound vision impairment, the resourced provision enables these students to fully access the school community and curriculum.
The integrated resource staff provide a full package of specialist support, which includes:
- Bespoke modification of all learning in appropriate medium such as braille
- Specialist in class support
- Specialist intervention teaching which incorporates the specialist curriculum for vision impaired learners (CFVI)
- Orientation and Mobility Training
- Independent Living Skills Training
The Service outreach team support all children and young people across the city with a vision impairment. From initial diagnosis we work with all stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for our children and young people.
The Service consists of Qualified specialist teachers, specialist teaching assistants, registered habilitation specialists and curriculum support staff. We provide ongoing specialist support and educational provision to enable each young person to reach their potential and become independent adults who are included in all aspects of their community.
