School Attendance

Attendance is taken very seriously at Tapton School and we are working hard to help students achieve 100% attendance as it is a proven fact that attendance is directly linked to academic results.

If you achieve 100% attendance - 190 days, you still have an amazing 175 days of holiday.

School Punctuality

Students should arrive at school on time. A bell will ring at 09.10am to signal school is about to start. By 9.15am students should be in their form room for registration. If you arrive after 9.15am you will be marked late. If we have no reason for a student not being in school by 10am we may send a text message or phone home to inform you your child is not in school.

Late to lessons will result in a detention.

Students must report to the reception office to sign in if they arrive after 9.15am. If a student needs to leave school early they need to bring a note to show their form tutor and make sure they show the note to reception and sign out when they leave.

Being late 10 mins every day for one year is equal to 33 hours approximately 6 days!!!!!

Reporting an Absence

If your child is unable to attend school it is important you inform school at the earliest possible convenience, preferably before 10am. Please make sure you state your child’s name, form group and the reason for absence. Please speak clearly and spell any unusual names. When your child returns to school please provide school with a note.

School Attendance

Students should attend school every day unless they are ill or have permission to be away. Dental and medical appointments should be made outside school hours where possible. If your child is unable to attend school it is important you inform school at the earliest possible convenience, preferably before 10am. When your child returns to school please provide school with a note.

School will often contact home by text, phone or letter if you are absent and no reason has been provided.

Good attendance will be rewarded with regular attendance certificates.

Tapton School is trying hard to work together with parents, carers and students to maintain good attendance. It is important that any issues that may prevent your child from attending are brought to the attention of their Year Team as soon as possible.

Research has shown that 17 days absence in a year results in a drop of one grade at GCSE
